the silo gallery

The opportunity to reinvent a massive silo as an art gallery is the core of this project in Kristiansand’s cultural quarter. To create an inner street that connects the channel city with the theatre and inner city, a flanking gallery is proposed. The strong, rounded geometric forms of the existing silos are accentuated by the introduction of a sharply fluted, convex set of galleries. Juxtaposing the sharp edges of one set of galleries against the rounded edges of the other creates an energizing tension between the old and the new.
